Rice with Pears by Shana Priwer and Cynthia Phillips
Cooked pears and rice is a great combination. Because the pears will cook to be quite soft, your toddler won't have any trouble chewing them along with the more-textured rice.
3 Servings
¼ cup white rice
½ ripe pear
½ cup water
Remove skin and core from pear, and chop into small pieces. Pour the water into a small saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil.
Add the rice and pears; then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 25–30 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed.
Once cool, fork-mash or purée the meal according to baby's preference. Thin with water, breastmilk, or formula if desired.
Too Much of a Good Thing
Lentils are a great way to add protein and fiber to your baby's diet. Lentils and rice, when combined, make a complete protein, which will fill up and satisfy your baby in a healthy way. Don't go overboard, though! Introduce this recipe in small amounts at first, and watch for loose stools or other signs that he's had enough fiber for one day.
