Boiled Rice with Milk by Shana Priwer and Cynthia Phillips
Popular in India, this simple recipe insures that your baby gets both the carbohydrates (from rice) and the calcium (from milk) that she needs. You can use any kind of rice in this recipe. Just remember that brown rice will be thicker and chunkier than white rice, and will also take longer to cook.
2 Servings
½ cup rice
1 cup water
1 cup milk (or soy milk)
3 tablespoons sugar
Put rice and water in pan. Heat to boil; then reduce heat and simmer until water is absorbed, about 20 minutes for white rice.
Once rice is cooked, add milk and sugar to the pan and mix well.
Cook at medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring often. Mixture will thicken.
Allow mixture to cool and mash with fork to desired consistency. Serve lukewarm.
