Bananas with Papaya and Mango by Shana Priwer and Cynthia Phillips
This tropical treat pairs bananas, a favorite food of many babies, with two other tropical fruits, papaya and mango. This combination is full of potassium and vitamin C, and is sweet and tasty for your baby. Try to match the size of the papaya and the mango — choose a small papaya and a large mango.
5 Servings
1 small ripe papaya
1 large ripe mango
2 ripe bananas
Slice papaya in half and remove seeds and skin. Cut into small chunks.
Remove skin and pit from mango, and cut into small chunks.
Peel bananas and cut into slices.
Place papaya in a steamer basket, and steam for about 5 minutes. Add mango and banana, steam for another 5 minutes, or until very tender.
Serve in pieces, or mash to desired consistency.
Mango Tips
Slicing a mango can be tricky. If the fruit is tender and ripe, it's almost impossible to eat a mango without making a huge mess. One tip is to slice both “cheeks” off the mango — cut off the rounded parts on both sides of the pit. Then with a sharp knife, cut squares in the flesh while still on the skin, push the skin inside out, and slice off the squares. Then dice what's left of the mango off the pit.
