Butterscotch Cookies
If you like crunchy cookies, leave these old-fashioned treats in the oven for the full 10 minutes, checking often to make sure they do not scorch.
INGREDIENTS | YIELDS 36 COOKIES
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1¾ cups flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- Pinch freshly grated nutmeg
Cream brown sugar and butter until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
Whisk dry ingredients together; stir into butter mixture.
Chill overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes.
Bake 8–10 minutes. Allow to cool before removing from baking sheets.
