Coconut Praline Bars

Use light brown sugar when you make the praline topping for this bar. Dark brown sugar will overpower the delicate flavors.

INGREDIENTS | YIELDS 36 BARS

Crust

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • ¾ cup butter

Topping

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cans sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 cups flaked coconut
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter 13" × 9" pan and set aside.

  2. Mix 1½ cups flour and confectioners’ sugar; blend butter in until mixture is crumbly.

  3. Press firmly into prepared pan; bake 10 minutes.

  4. Mix condensed milk, ¼ cup flour, vanilla, and coconut. Spread over bars; return to oven 10 minutes.

  5. Melt butter and brown sugar together in a pan; cook, stirring, until mixture is no longer grainy; do not overcook. Pour quickly over bars and sprinkle with pecans. Chill.
