Orange and Dark Chocolate Chip

These taste very much like the chocolate oranges that are so popular during the holidays. Use a good juice orange rather than a navel orange, if possible.

INGREDIENTS | YIELDS 24 COOKIES

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla
  • Grated rind and juice of 1 medium orange
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups bittersweet chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease cookie sheets.

  2. Cream together butter, shortening, and sugars. Add eggs; beat well. Thoroughly mix in vanilla and orange juice.

  3. Mix in dry ingredients and grated orange rind.

  4. Carefully stir in chocolate chips.

  5. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheets; bake 8–10 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from pan.
