Brainstorm
Make a list of all the elements that make a particular sitcom your favorite. Is it the quirky characters, the snappy dialogue, or the interesting plots? Next, break the show down to its simplest elements and write a two- or three-sentence description of your favorite episodes. Pick a few episodes, try to find scripts online for those episodes, and look carefully at how they are written. This helps you work backward to get down to the bare bones of the ideas. Look at how the individual characters' lines are written and try to envision the characters actually saying their lines. This will help you understand the power of the script and the scriptwriter's ability to write for existing characters.
