Two of the most popular forms of comedy are parody and satire, which can go hand in hand yet be totally different. Parody makes fun of something by imitating it. It can range from silly to subtle and its point is just to make people laugh. Satire tries to make a point with what it says. It can hold a mirror up to society or make you look at yourself. A work can be pure parody or pure satire or a thousand different shades in between.
