Brainstorm

Look over your responses to the questions at the beginning of this chapter, and take an educated guess about what might click with an audience — things that they might identify with. Remember, it's not the specifics of the bad job or the pet peeve, it's the idea of it. They will respond to any bad job or any pet peeve, because they can empathize with you. And if your job was even worse than theirs, they might even feel better about themselves because you've helped them put things in perspective. They have had similar situations as well. Start looking for more things that you can share with your audience, and they'll start sharing their laughs with you.
