Guacamole with Tortilla Chips

1 small red onion

2 garlic cloves

4 avocados

3 tablespoons (or to taste) lemon juice

¼ cup salsa Corn tortilla chips

  • Peel and chop the red onion. Smash, peel, and finely chop the garlic cloves. Slice the avocados lengthwise, working around the pit. Remove the skin and pit, and mash the avocados in a medium-sized bowl.

  • Mix the onion, garlic, lemon juice, and salsa with the mashed avocado. Refrigerate briefly to give the flavors time to blend, and then serve with the tortilla chips.

Yields about 3½ cups

Turn the heat on this popular dip up or down by using hot or mild salsa. For best results, homemade guacamole should be served the same day it's made.
