Basic Baked Potato
Preheat oven to 400°.
Wash the potatoes and scrub to remove any dirt. Poke a few holes in each potato with a fork. Place directly on the middle oven rack.
Bake the potatoes for 45 minutes or until done. To test for doneness, pierce the potatoes with a fork. It should go through easily. Remove from oven. Cut each potato in half lengthwise while still hot. Add the butter or margarine. Serve hot.
After cooking, you can load the potato with sour cream, bacon bits, chives, shredded cheese, or your own favorite toppings.
