Nobody ever said every coin (or bank note) that is collected has to have a value over its face value. Collectors collect. They can be coins or notes merely of face value, but even when someone is collecting from pocket change the question always arises, “How much is it worth?” The other half of this question is the rather naïve, “When will my coin become valuable?” The mechanics of this intangible value will be addressed in this chapter.
