Manhattan
Makes 1 drink
2 ounces whiskey
1 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Maraschino cherry
It is believed that the bartender at a party thrown by Winston Churchill's mother invented the Manhattan. The party was at the Manhattan Club in New York City. Replace the whiskey with scotch, and this drink is called a Rob Roy.
Manhattans can be served straight up or on the rocks. Shake and strain the ingredients into a cocktail glass or pour them into a glass of ice. Garnish with a cherry. Add some cherry juice to make a sweet Manhattan. To make a perfect Manhattan, use half dry and half sweet vermouth.
