Beyond the pro teacher, there is the Master Teacher — a professional designation created by the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE). The ABCTE is a nonprofit organization established in 2001 dedicated to “increasing the supply of highly qualified teachers essential for achieving student success.” To that end, the ABCTE has developed the Master Teacher Program leading to a special certification as a Master Teacher. You might not attain this formal certification, but you can still become a master teacher in your own right.
