To the ancients, the world was inhabited by thousands of deities and spirits that controlled nature and interacted with humans. Although the Olympians were unquestionably the most powerful deities, a host of other gods appear throughout the myths. They may have been less powerful and less glorious than the mighty Olympians, but these lesser gods played an important role in classical mythology.
