As you learned in Chapter 3, Gaia (Earth) was one of the first beings to emerge from Chaos. Gaia was a powerful goddess. In some myths, she was the original power behind the oracle at Delphi, and an oath sworn to Gaia was absolutely binding. Above all else, though, Gaia was a mother — the original Earth Mother. This chapter tells about the children of Mother Earth and their respective roles in classical mythology.
