The World and Humanity's Place in It
This chapter began with some fundamental questions about how the world was created and how humans came to inhabit it. The ancients understood creation as a movement from chaos to order, and they saw humanity as a part of creation that could challenge the gods. (Why else would Zeus be so angry with Prometheus and scheme to weaken his creation?)
Every religion has a creation story, and many of these stories have striking similarities from one culture to another. For example, as you were reading the story of Pandora, did the biblical Eve ever cross your mind?
