Cranberry Sauce

This can be served in addition to the jelled, canned cranberry sauce that some people enjoy with their Thanksgiving turkey.

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 8

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  1. In a medium-size saucepan combine the sugar, water, and orange juice. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

  2. Add the cranberries to the simmering liquid and stir over medium heat for 5 minutes, until the berries pop.

  3. Stir the orange zest into the cranberries; remove from the heat.

  4. Let the sauce cool to room temperature; then chill it in the refrigerator.

Lemon Baskets

Serve homemade cranberry sauce in hollowed-out lemon halves for an eye-catching holiday table. Oranges work well too, and complement the orange juice and zest in the recipe.
