Belgian Waffles
Belgian waffles are thick, square waffles with deep, large indentations where syrup and melted butter pool together for a luscious flavor. Belgian waffles are great for topping with ice cream to make dessert waffles, but this recipe can be used for any shape of waffle.
INGREDIENTS | SERVES 6
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 3 eggs
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1½ cups milk
- vegetable oil for waffle iron
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
Preheat waffle iron and oil it with vegetable oil.
Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a bowl, using a whisk.
Combine eggs, melted butter, and milk in another bowl, using the whisk.
Stir egg mixture into flour mixture until just combined; don't overmix.
Pour or ladle about ½ cup waffle batter onto preheated and oiled waffle iron; cook according to manufacturer's instructions.
Heat maple syrup and 2 tablespoons unsalted butter together in a small pitcher or bowl in the microwave and serve warm with waffles.
