Pizza Dough

Pizza dough can be used to make not only pizza, but also calzone, stromboli, and breadsticks. This recipe is enough for 2 medium-size round pizzas.

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 8

  • 1 package yeast
  • 3 ounces warm water
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ cup cool water
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  1. Combine yeast with the warm water, sugar, and ½ cup of the flour. Let sit 10 minutes.

  2. Add olive oil, cool water, salt, and 1 cup flour. Combine with a wooden spoon.

  3. Add remaining cup of flour; mix to form dough.

  4. Knead dough on a floured board for 5 minutes, adding flour as needed to prevent sticking.

  5. Place dough in oiled bowl; cover. Let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.

  6. Punch down dough and divide in half. Roll the halves into balls and let rise, covered, for 1 hour. Dough is then ready to roll or stretch into pizza rounds, top, and bake.
