The Tuatha Dé Danann is a mythological race unlike any other. They are the mysterious pre-Celtic inhabitants of Ireland, the gods of the Celtic myth cycles, and the fairies of Celtic folklore. Masters of magic, craftsmanship, and secret knowledge, they carried the four legendary hallows, or Treasures of Ireland — the magical Sword of Nuada, the Spear of Lugh, the Cauldron of Bounty (belonging to Dagda), and the Lia Fail or “Stone of Destiny,” which would foretell the succession of Irish kings. The Dé Dananns inhabited the same land as the Celts, shrouded from sight in the mystical Otherworld, and eventually became known as the fey, or fairies.
