Roman Catholicism, like all Christian denominations, holds Jesus Christ as its founder and principal teacher. The daily practice of Catholics, however, unlike their Protestant brothers and sisters, is centered about the seven sacraments, special signs that mark significant events in the life of Jesus and various rites of passage in the course of human life. It is essential to understand what sacraments are, their various categories, and how they developed, both historically and theologically. This study begins with the three sacraments of initiation: baptism, Eucharist, and confirmation.
