General Odds

For the most part, special games like those described here are not intended to keep you planted at the table for a long time. Rather, they are “impulse” betting opportunities, designed to catch the eye — and part of the bankroll — of the casual or novice gambler as he or she explores the gaming floor. You can confirm this the next time you're at a casino by watching the wheel of fortune for a few minutes. Chances are you'll notice one or two people stopping to place one or two bets, and then moving on.

With few exceptions, these kinds of games carry a horrendous house edge — in the 30 percent and 40 percent range in some instances. That's why you don't see veteran gamblers crowded around the Acey Deucy table or scrambling to find a spot at sic bo. Unless you want to drop your entire bankroll as quickly as possible, your approach to these games should be to use them sparingly, as an enjoyable break from other games or as a brief detour on your way to the buffet.
