At one time, slot machines were viewed condescendingly as toys to keep wives and girlfriends occupied while the men played the “real” casino games of craps, blackjack, and roulette. Table games were the prime moneymakers for casinos, and the few slot machines were tucked in little-used corners, away from the traffic and excitement of genuine gambling. Today, slot machines dominate most casino gaming floors, generating by some estimates as much as 70 or 80 percent of a casino's revenue.
