Other Useful Items
You now have the basic tools needed to start producing professional-quality cartoons. As you start drawing you will notice that you need to make a few other purchases. These aren't crucial items, but they're worth a trip to the art supply store:
Ruler: For measuring panel dimensions (in points as well as inches)
Ink compass: Useful for drawing circles
Circle/oval templates: For drawing circles and ovals
Kneaded eraser: For cleaning up final art
Masking tape: To hold the illustration board to the drawing table
Wooden body model: For envisioning posture/stances
Mirror: For self-modeling expressions
Tracing paper: Useful both on the light box for reworking images and under your drawing hand for preventing smudges
Graphic tablet: Used for drawing images directly into your computer
Tape or glue pennies to the underside of your triangle to raise it off the surface so it won't smear your ink. You can buy a special triangle with a raised edge, but this homemade technique results in a much better gap between triangle and paper.
These are all items of secondary importance. But they will each come in handy as your skills (and therefore, expectations of yourself) improve.
