A comic book is an extension of the comic strip. Instead of delivering the story three or four panels at a time, the comic book delivers the story through several pages of panels. This opens the door to an entire universe of narrative techniques. Although dismissed for decades as strictly juvenile entertainment, comic books are being more widely recognized for their sophisticated storytelling qualities. Today, titles like Maus and American Splendor are used to tell gripping tales without superheroes.
