Too much change too quickly can have devastating results. In 1967, Holmes and Rahe developed the Life Events Scale, which weighs the probability of life events triggering stress and illness. Moving; death of a spouse, other family member, or close friends; and retirement are among some of the most stressful life events. When too many of these events take place within a year's time, health issues can arise or be significantly affected.
