Simply Better Chocolate Cake

This recipe takes just a little extra measuring, but the results are well worth it. With cocoa and sugar for extra sweet richness, this is a great foundation recipe for all your fancy cake decoration projects.

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 8

  • 1 18.25-ounce box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients called for on box
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 additional egg
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 16-ounce tub prepared frosting
  1. Preheat oven according to cake mix instructions. Grease and flour cake pan. Set aside.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix and ingredients called for on box.

  3. Add cornstarch, cocoa, extra egg, and sugar. Stir to combine. Add additional egg.

  4. Beat batter for 5 minutes using an electric mixer set to medium speed. Pour batter into cake pan.

  5. Bake cake according to instructions on package.

  6. Allow cake to cool completely before turning out onto serving platter. Frost.
