All-American Burger Cake
Sliders (mini burgers) are a trendy appetizer in many restaurants. To mimic this trend, create cupcake-sized versions of this cake.
INGREDIENTS | SERVES 12
- 1 18.25-ounce box white cake mix plus ingredients called for on box
- 1 18.25-ounce brownie mix plus ingredients called for on box
- 1 12-ounce can ready-to-spread vanilla frosting
- 1 12-ounce can ready-to-spread chocolate frosting
- Red food coloring
- Yellow food coloring
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
Preheat oven to 350°F. Generously grease two 8″ layer pans.
Prepare and bake white cake mix according to package directions. Remove from oven and let cool for 20 minutes. Remove cakes from pans to wire racks and allow to cool completely.
While cake layers cool, prepare brownies according to package directions and bake in an 8″ layer pan. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes in the pan. Invert pan and allow layer to cool on a wire rack.
Reserve 1 cup vanilla frosting. Mix remaining vanilla frosting and all of chocolate frosting together with a drop each of red and yellow food colorings to create the color of a bun.
Place one cake layer on serving plate; cut off the top if it is too rounded to sit flat. Frost with half of the bun-colored frosting. Top with brownie layer.
In separate bowls, mix some vanilla frosting with yellow coloring for mustard and red for ketchup. Top brownie with frosting.
Add top layer of cake and frost with remaining bun-colored frosting.
