Questions a Breeder May Ask You
A high-quality boxer puppy will likely come from only one source: a reputable breeder, who will have just as many questions for you (or more). You should welcome this kind of interrogation, which is a strong sign that the breeder cares about her puppies and is looking for the best possible homes for them. All reputable breeders do their best to avoid having their puppies end up in rescue or abandoned. Here are some questions a breeder might ask you:
Do you own or rent your home?
Do you live in an apartment?
Do you have a fenced back yard?
Do you have a reputable veterinarian?
Do you have references?
Have you ever owned a dog before? A boxer?
Have you ever trained or shown a dog before?
Have you ever obedience trained a dog before?
Can you afford veterinary costs?
Do you have a reputable obedience club or trainer to help you train your puppy?
Boxers are big strong dogs that need plenty of space, attention, and training. If you can't provide any of these necessary elements, the breeder may decide that it's not in everyone's best interest to give you one of her dogs. Again, this signals that the breeder cares about her dogs' welfare above all. If the breeder meets all the criteria described in this chapter, her estimation may be valid, and you may want to consider another breed more suited to your situation.
A good breeder will ensure that her dogs are happy and healthy.
