Cuts and Scrapes
It is important to have any cut, scrape, or puncture that bleeds freely and is anything other than tiny looked at by your vet to be sure that it doesn't need to be stitched or have other treatment applied to it. Since dogs lick their wounds, and they can lick their stitches out, it is sometimes necessary to put on an Elizabethan collar that prevents them from reaching the injured part of their body. An Elizabethan collar is not a fashion statement for dogs, but a device that vets recommend you use (and can furnish to you) that prevents your boxer from licking a wound that needs to heal. It fits around the neck like a funnel restricting your boxer's ability to reach wounds. Without restrictions, dogs will at times, lick stitches out of wounds and re-open them.
Cuts and punctures, especially, need to be looked at by a vet. Sometimes these wounds heal on the outside while the inside becomes infected and abscessed. Be on the safe side, and get injuries checked out by your veterinarian.
