Male or Female?

Male boxers are larger, bigger boned, heavier, and more powerful than female boxers. Many people think that male boxers are less manageable than females. It is true that if left intact, untrained, and unsupervised, males will sometimes mark in the house. Males tend to be more wildly enthusiastic and sillier than females, which some people equate with being unmanageable. If unchecked or untrained, males may have a greater tendency to lunge at other dogs and to be aggressive. All of these behaviors, however, are very manageable with training. On the other hand, some people feel that that enthusiasm makes for a great performance or conformation dog.

Despite the common (uneducated) belief, male boxers can be very sweet pets. If you start your little boxer puppy in puppy socialization classes at an early age and work with him consistently, you will have a wonderful, loyal, and affectionate companion once he is an adult. Male boxers are very loving.

Female boxers, like the females of most breeds, are considered to be more docile and affectionate, although some boxer bitches can be just as wild, energetic, and territorial as their boxer brothers. The female boxer's ingrained concern for the young of all species makes them good with children. Their smaller size, lighter weight, and lesser strength may make them more manageable. But just like their boxer brothers, they need lifelong training.
