Finding a Veterinarian

Whether you have taken home a boxer puppy or an adult dog, you still need to choose a veterinarian. The best option is to find a vet who either has boxers herself or knows a great deal about the illnesses and congenital issues that boxers face. Of course, the most important thing is that the vet cares about your boxer. With any luck she'll also be someone you could enjoy taking your dog to see.

When take your new boxer to the vet for the first time, you might want to ask about how much exercise the dog needs. Get vaccinations schedules and an emergency vet referral if the vet isn't open around the clock, and ask whether she can recommend some basic training classes. Also check to see whether the clinic boards dogs in emergencies or if the vet can recommend someone else who does. Write down the vet's regular phone number, emergency contact number, address, and business hours. Keep this information accessible in multiple places in your home.
