On or Off People?
One of the most disruptive things about having dogs in public is that they sometimes jump on people, which is an especially big problem when they jump on people who are afraid of dogs.
At dog shows, there are many people who find dogs jumping on them a perfectly normal part of what dog shows are about. After all, in that busy setting, how are dogs going to get to know people but to jump up and introduce themselves? So, many otherwise well-trained and well-behaved dogs may appear to be not so well trained or well behaved.
In fact, there are many competitive-obedience training methods that encourage having the dog jump on the trainer to encourage bonding, and to make some kinds of exercises easier. So there may be some reasons to encourage your boxer to jump on you. However, if you do train this, it must be under your control, not his. So instead of discouraging all jumping up on you when he is a pup, you need to get control of the behavior so he can still do it at your invitation. That is the way you gain control of most behaviors. If you can train the opposite of a behavior you don't want along with what you do want, you can usually put both on command readily.
Getting along with other dogs is a major part of good boxer manners.
