Market research should be an integral part of preparing a book proposal, whether you want to write fiction or non-fiction. Chapters 2 and 3 show you how to research the market for potential agents and publishers. But before you try to sell your book to them, you have to know who your potential readers are. And you have to be able to demonstrate to potential agents and publishers that there is, indeed, a readership out there just waiting for your book.
