The children's book market presents an interesting dichotomy. The phenomenal success of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events books shows that writing for children can be a rewarding endeavor in every sense. However, most people in the publishing industry still view children's books as a difficult market to break into — in part because few children's books capture the widespread audience of a Harry Potter, but also because few writers understand the specialty of writing for children.
