The writer of the epistle to the Hebrews (it isn't certain who wrote it and exactly when) was writing to Jewish people who had become Christians but who later wanted to reverse course in order to escape persecution by their Jewish brothers and sisters. The theme of the book of Hebrews is the superiority of Jesus Christ over the Jewish system of priesthood, laws, and sacrifices. Jesus, the writer tells them, is better than angels, better than Moses, better than the established Jewish priesthood, better than the Law of Moses.
