The apostle Peter, the man who spent three-plus years traveling with Jesus during his earthly ministry and the man Jesus charged with taking the gospel message of salvation to the Jewish world, wrote his first epistle to the Christians in the Black Sea coastal area. These believers were facing intense suffering and persecution over their faith, and Peter wants them to know that they should not be surprised or alarmed because of the opposition that was coming their way.
