Eye Treatments
You may also someday find yourself having to give your baby eye medication, in the form of drops or ointment. You'll need to have someone hold your baby's hands so she doesn't rub away the drops immediately, or you can wrap her in a blanket. Balancing your hand on her cheek, but being careful not to touch the dropper to the eye, aim the drops for the inside corner of her eye. (Her eye does not need to be open; when she blinks, the drops will get in.)
If you're administering ointment, you do not need to force her eye open. Instead, squeeze out a line of ointment along the roots of her upper eyelashes (kind of like eyeliner). Keep her hands away from her eyes until the ointment melts into them. You can also pull down her lower eyelid to make a pouch and put the drops or ointment inside that. If your baby really fights the eye medication, try applying it when she is asleep.
