You've been communicating with your baby since you found out you were pregnant. Now that he's here in the world with you, don't stop talking. The sound of your voice will comfort him as a newborn and guide him as he grows. Reading, singing, and telling stories to your baby are critical for language development. He'll practice imitating what he hears and will watch and feel the way your mouth moves. You may even teach him a few simple words in sign language. Eventually, of course, he'll understand what he hears and be able to communicate back. Before you know it, he'll tell you exactly what he thinks.
