Meat and Dairy

At around eight months you can, if you'd like, give your baby his first taste of meat. Don't panic if those little jarred meats never make it into your baby's mouth. Many babies never take to the taste of canned meats. You can try mixing meats with pureed vegetables or grind up meat from your family's dinner, which at least smells better than the jarred meats. Or you can just wait until your baby is old enough to pick up a bit of chicken and chew it for himself. Meat is not necessary in the first year; your baby is getting all the protein he needs from formula or breastmilk.

Wait until your baby is at least twelve months old before feeding him dairy products. The protein in cow's milk can be difficult to break down.
