Dress for Success

While special nursing clothes are available, you don't really need them. You can't wear regular dresses and breastfeed easily, but any untucked shirt is fine for nursing. A nursing bra is good for easy access. Avoid tight bras or underwire bras; they can cause clogged milk ducts.

You'll probably want at least a small supply of breast pads to catch leaks in the early weeks, and then for any time you think you'll be away from your baby for longer than usual. Change the pads regularly to keep your breasts dry. Disposable pads lined with plastic block air, washable cotton breast pads are better because they allow your skin to breathe. You can also make your own pads by folding up a cloth handkerchief or cutting circles from cotton diapers or old T-shirts (you'll need several layers).
