Sunshine and Naked Time
A number of infant care problems can be avoided by letting your baby lie around naked. If he can spend some of his “naked time” in the sun — outside, or in a patch of sun from a window — so much the better. Sunbaths help prevent diaper rash, heal the umbilical cord, and head off newborn jaundice by breaking down the bilirubin in the blood. We're not talking about going for the George Hamilton look, of course. Just five minutes of sun a day, in the early morning or late afternoon, are plenty. And make sure your baby is facing away from the sun or that his eyes are covered.
