Signs of Good Hygiene
Hygiene is not likely to be on your baby’s list of priorities. However, some children do love bath time. The following sign may be of interest to the little one who takes delight in this activity. It is easy to form and easy to remember.
BATHBabies either seem to love the water or hate it. The baby who loves to bathe will be eager to form this sign when she realizes that she can request bath time whenever she wants it. Those who are not as fond of the water will probably be very hesitant to form this sign, at least once they realize that it will result in a bath.
-
1. Curl up the fingers of both hands, thumbs pointing up, and bring them to your chest.
-
2. Move your fists up and down your chest as if scrubbing your skin.
The sign should resemble washing your chest. Check out the DVD to see it in motion.
E-ALERT
With so many water-related signs to learn, your baby may sometimes get the signs mixed up. It is best to only demonstrate one water sign at a time to minimize her confusion. In addition to BATH, other water signs include WATER (as in drinking or tap), SWIM, RAIN, LAKE, and PUDDLE.
If getting your child into the bathtub is a struggle, you may want to wait until after she is in the water to form the sign. It will not take very long before she associates the sign with the action, and seeing you make the sign might cause an unnecessary temper tantrum.
