Setting Up Away from Home

Tea houses, tea shops, and tea bars are popping up all over the country, and many have party or ceremony facilities. If you can’t find a specialty shop, choose a location with a meditative feel, such as a Japanese garden, a yoga studio, an art gallery, a health club, a day spa, or a dim sum house. The most important feature of the facility is that it help to establish a sense of balance and calm for the party; however, any room that fits that order can be decorated in Zen fashion.

If you choose an activity that requires floor space, such as the Mommy and Me Yoga class, take this into consideration when selecting a site. The baby-swaddling activity requires the use of the floor or a table, and the belly-casting activity will require access to water. All of these suggested activities may require the use of a DVD player to assist in the instruction, so consider power-source options or opt for a live demonstration with a teacher.
