Basic Food Rules
Although this book advocates a creative approach to most things culinary, there are still some rules for parties. Selecting a menu takes consideration, creativity, and some calculations. If you are an adventurous chef, this is not the time to try out a new recipe or challenge guests with “Guess what we ate for dinner?”
Instead, it is a time to exercise your serving creativity on tried-and-true recipes that you know to be crowd pleasers. It is not the time to choose a meal that requires a week off to prepare and a week’s vacation to recover from preparing.
Fact
Some foods are not recommended for pregnant women. These include sushi, deep-sea fish (high in mercury), unpasteurized cheeses and dairy products, undercooked meats, and foods laden with sodium. Excessive caffeine and alcohol are also not recommended, so watch when considering these menu items.
