Grilled Pears with Claret Sauce

Serves 8

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups claret
  • 4 whole cloves, bruised
  • ½ cup sugar (optional)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 8 unpeeled pears, halved and cored
  1. Bring the claret, cloves, and sugar to a boil and reduce to half. Add the cream and keep warm.

  2. Set grill to high heat.

  3. Grill the pears over a hot fire for 1 minute, cut-side down. Turn and grill for 30 seconds. Remove pears to serving plates, spoon sauce over all, and serve immediately.
