How Important Are Sun Signs?
Generalities in your chart — using just Sun signs without Moon, ascendant, etc. — aren't wrong, but they're hardly the full story. They don't take into account the vast diversity inherent in every human being. However, they are a convenient way to immediately get a handle on someone you've just met.
Another part of the astrological pattern that appears in a natal chart is formed by the distribution of the planets in the twelve houses of the horoscope. One famous astrologer, Marc Edmond Jones, identified seven such patterns or shapes. All horoscopes fall into one of them. These are called “Jones's Patterns.”
Your Sun sign is the pattern of your overall personality and represents your ego. The sign in which your Sun falls influences the goals you choose and how you accomplish those goals. The twelve Sun signs are divided roughly by months, but because those divisions don't follow the months exactly, you may have been born on the cusp between two signs. If you were, then read the interpretations for both signs. For instance, if you were born on April 19, the cutoff date for Aries, also read the interpretation for Taurus, because some of those attributes probably apply to you.
