Sun Squares

Look at your own chart. What planets and houses are involved in the squares? What do these particular planets and houses tell you about yourself? How can you work with the friction to alleviate it? Sometimes a square will spur us on and make us stronger — less lazy and more willing to demand what we can from ourselves. The following are Sun squares. Note that there can never be a Sun square Mercury or Venus.

Sun Square Moon. Your conscious mind constantly battles with your emotions over what you want and how you should achieve your goals. To meet the challenge, you must bring old behavioral patterns that may have originated during your childhood to light.

Sun Square Mars. You're hot-tempered. It takes a lot to make you mad, but when you reach that flash point, you explode. You're also argumentative, passionate, and energetic. If well-aspected by Saturn, this square gives you terrific drive to achieve. Cultivate patience and learn to think before you act.

Sun Square Jupiter. You make a comfortable living, but spend money as fast as it comes in. You overindulge in everything and have great fun doing it. Your excesses may cause you problems of all sorts, particularly through ill health in later years. Your humanity, however, remains constant: you always help people in need. Learn moderation, and you'll overcome the challenges of this aspect.

Sun Square Saturn. You struggle to succeed and yet, at every turn, your efforts seem to be thwarted. But your ambition, pierced by inner friction, drives you forward. You seize on every mishap and somehow turn it to your advantage. The challenge is to recognize the difference between pride and principal. Cultivate optimism and flexibility.

Sun Square Uranus. Your powerful, creative urges often frustrate you because they come in spurts. You must develop perseverance and discipline so you can structure this force and work with it regularly. Your creative desires propel you into erratic love affairs, which usually end because they restrict your freedom in some way.

Sun Square Neptune. Self-delusion may be your undoing. Guard against mystical feelings of grandeur, avoid cults of any type, and seek to cultivate your reasoning, left-brain faculties.

Neptune can play with our heads and draw us into the world of the mystic and surreal. Sun square Neptune is a difficult aspect because it's easy to become prey to fantasies — they're so much simpler than real life. The true test is to avoid the temptation of sliding over to “the dark side.” In fact, an affinity for secret love affairs often accompanies this aspect.

Sun Square Pluto. This one is difficult. Pluto creates so much inner friction, your need to achieve overwhelms nearly everything else in your life. But if the friction is turned inward, toward transforming the self, the darker elements in this square are greatly mitigated.

Sun Square Nodes. This aspect forms what is called a T-square. It can be a dynamic aspect, one that propels you forward. But until you understand it, it makes you feel obstructed by circumstances in your life and in society in general. To overcome this, you need to nurture the part of your life described by the house your Sun occupies.

Sun Square Ascendant. You're conflicted about projecting yourself as you really are. It creates problems in your closest relationships because no one seems to understand you. To overcome this, cultivate the area of your life described by the house the Sun occupies.

Sun Square Midheaven. You don't get along with the authority figures in your life. Your professional ambitions may be stymied somehow by your family obligations. Look to the house the Sun occupies to understand how to overcome this challenge.
