Though we tend to focus on national and state government and politics, most citizens are affected more by their local government. Nevertheless, local government remains something of a mystery to most Americans. It doesn't receive the same press attention as the federal or state government and politics, and many citizens are unaware of how it is organized and executed. This chapter examines county, city, and town government, as well as special districts and regional government.
